Vehicle Titles: Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to our most commonly asked questions about your vehicle’s title and Western Funding.

If you reside in KY, MD, MI, MN, MO, MT or NY: You will receive your title by mail in approximately 30 days from date of purchase; if you would like to pickup your title, please contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles to obtain your options. If you have not received your title within 30 days, contact the selling dealer or your local Department of Motor Vehicles for assistance. If you are in need of further assistance, please contact Western Funding’s Customer Service Dept at 888-434-5913.

For AL, AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, LA, MA, ME, MS, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV and WY: Western Funding retains the title until the account is paid in full.

For KS residents: The Kansas Department of Revenue holds title.

Contact the selling dealer. If they are unable to resolve your issue, please feel free to contact Western Funding’s Title Dept at 888-434-3150 Option #3.

Contact your new local Department of Motor Vehicles and obtain a request form and forward it to Western Funding. Western Funding will process the request once received and forward a state change authorization form to the requesting Department of Motor Vehicles. Please contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles to complete the process.

Please contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles and obtain a name change request form. Please complete the form and send it to Western Funding with the legal document supporting the approved name change (i.e.: Marriage certificate, divorce decree or recorded court order). Please include the address of the Department of Motor Vehicles that will be performing the name change update. If Western funding holds title, the paper work will be processed and the title and a name change authorization form will be mailed back to your local Department of Motor Vehicles. Please contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles to complete the process.

I’m on the contract and I need to be added to the title:
Please submit a written request. The request is required to include your name (as shown on your contract), your account number and/or VIN number and the address to your local Department of Motor Vehicles. Western Funding will then forward the received information to your local Department of Motor Vehicles. If Western Funding holds the title, we will process the required documents and forward the title to Department of Motor Vehicles address provided. Please follow-up with your local Department of Motor Vehicles to complete the process.

A person currently on the contract would like their name removed from the title:
Please submit a written notarized request. The request is required to include your name (as shown on your contract), your account number and/or VIN number and the address to your local Department of Motor Vehicles. Western Funding will then forward the received information to your Department of Motor Vehicles. If Western Funding holds the title, we will process the required documents and forward the title to your Department of Motor Vehicles address provided. Please follow-up with your local Department of Motor Vehicles to complete the process.

Important: Removing a name off a title does not release a person from a legal obligation; they will still be legally responsible until the account is paid in full.

Deceased customer, what do I do?
Please contact Customer Service at 888-434-5913 and advise that the customer is deceased and obtain the email address where you can forward the death certificate to; further guidance will be provided at that time.

Can I add another person or company that is not on the contract?
Western Funding does not offer this option.

If you reside in KY, MD, MI, MN, MO, MT or NY:

  • If Western Funding holds title, lien will be released within 30 days of payoff.
  • If the title is held by the Department of Motor Vehicles, please refer to their processing times.

For AL, AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, LA, MA, ME, MS, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV and WY:

  • If Western Funding holds the physical title, the title and related documentation are generally mailed out within 30 days.
  • For electronic titles, Western Funding will release lien within 15 days of payoff. Please contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles if you have not received your paper title.

For FL, OH and KS titles:

For electronic titles, Western Funding will release lien within 15 days of payoff. If you are in need of a paper title, please contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles for assistance.

  • If you live in a state where the customer holds title, please contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles to obtain a duplicate title.
  • If you have already paid off your loan or just need a copy of the title, contact the Customer Service Department at 888-434-5913 for assistance.
  • Western Funding does not hold title in: KY, MD, MI, MN, MO, MT and NY.
